PAUL M. EGLEY

Paul Mitchell Egley, age 67, of Wayland, MO, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2018 at his home.

Paul was born February 1, 1950 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Robert and Wilma Schneider Egley.

He was married to Mary Smith and they were the parents of Hope and Faith. They later divorced. On February 1, 1981, he was united in marriage to Sandra Taylor and to this family was added three blessings, Teri, James and John.

Survivors include his wife Sandra; four children: Hope Egley (Justin McClain) and Faith Irvin, all of Revere, Teri (Marty) Cockrell of Fairfield, IA and John (Carrie) Egley of Wayland; six grandchildren: Casey (Brittanie) Cockrell of Salem, IA, Colby (Jessica) Cockrell of Chico, CA, Adrian Egley of Alexandria, Alexis Irvin of Kahoka, Noah Egley of Wayland, and Clayton Irvin of Kahoka; four great grandchildren: Oliver, Kayden and Colby, Jr. Cockrell and Brenlee Burdette; five sisters: Rose (Raymond) Morehouse of Kahoka, Laurel (Glen "Boots") Peterson of New Baden, IL, Velma (David) Kirchner of Lake Ozark, MO, Pati (Howard) Toops of Burlington, IA and Pam Irvin of Kahoka; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Rosemary Egley of Alexandria, Betty St. Clair of Kahoka, and Donnie (Vickie) Balentine of Keokuk; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James "Jimbo" Taylor; a brother, Gene Egley; two brothers-in-law, John Irvin, Jr. and Terry "Butch" Balentine ,and grandson, Ethan Egley.

Paul was a 1968 graduate of Clark County High School and a U. S. Army Veteran.

He was a truck driver for Gully Transport in Quincy for the past 38 years.

Paul was a member of Bluff Springs United Methodist Church. He quietly did a lot for others and enjoyed life whenever he could be outdoors and busy. He loved to make people laugh and was fun to be around. He was a cookie monster who always had a jar full for the grandkids supposedly, but kept his hand in there as well. He also would make sure he had cheese balls around and plenty of Diet Pepsi. He made sure people who worked holidays had a home cooked meal and took time to make homemade valentines for lucky people. In earlier years he loved riding his Harley. Nascar, Westerns, and his dogs were very important parts of his life as well as visiting with friends at the gas station in Wayland.

Sandy was his queen. He treated her as one and showered her with flowers. You would have thought he had his own flower garden rather than being known for mowing flowers down. He was faithful and devoted to her. Family was more important than anything to Paul. He cherished being with his children, grandchildren, siblings and their families, and all those he loved.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Recorded music selections included: "Tears In Heaven", "Daddy's Hands", "Could I Have This Dance", "The Old Rugged Cross" ad "Knights In White Satin". Pallbearers were: Casey Cockrell, Adrian Egley, Delbert Irvin, Ted Woodsmall, Marty Cockrell and Justin McClain. Honorary pallbearers were: Kent Leeper, Rick Jinkens, Bill Eisebeiss, Bob Clary, Frank Dexter, Dewayne Seals, Rick Stinnett, Greg Peters, Tim Murphy and Sheldon Bue. Burial with military rites will follow in Bluff Springs Cemetery.

Friends called at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
