Philip L. Hall

January 3, 1932 — March 27, 2025

Philip L. Hall, 93, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away peacefully at 7:00 am on Thursday, March 27, 2025, after a brief stay at the Clark County Nursing Home, in Kahoka, Missouri with his family by his side.

Phil was born on January 3, 1932, in East St. Louis, Illinois to Fred J. and Edith E. (Lawrence) Hall. Phil grew up in Belleville, IL. After graduating high school, he attended the Jr. College in Belleville for two years. He then joined the U.S. Navy and went to Electronics School in San Fransico before serving as a radar technician on several aircraft carriers, sailing around the world. He never lost his love of travel or boats – big or small. After his tour with the Navy, he earned his Bachelor of Education from SIU in Carbondale, IL, and began teaching Industrial Arts in Cahokia, IL. He met Miriam Hess, the love of his life, on a blind date on the Admiral Riverboat in St. Louis. They were married July 9, 1960, in Kahoka, Missouri, and their son Doug was born in 1965. Then Phil decided he wanted to give farming a try, so in 1966 they bought a farm close to his in-laws in Clark County. Daughter Debbie joined the family the following year. After two years of teaching in LaGrange, MO, he moved to Clark County High School where he taught until his retirement in 1991.

In addition to teaching and farming, Phil served on the Board of Directors for the Clark County Nursing Home from 2002-2024, was President of the Board of Freedom in Christ Fellowship in Kahoka and was an active member of the Gideons. He enjoyed photography, woodworking, and working on old cars. He could fix anything and built his own home from the bottom up. He loved taking camping trips out West with his family and going on mission trips around the world, including multiple trips to Russia, China, Africa, Indonesia, and the Philippines. He enjoyed studying the Bible and sharing his faith with others and was a faithful member of his church.

Phil cared deeply about others. He faithfully cared for his parents and loved his family and friends. He was proud of his children, granddaughters, great-grandson, and all his nieces and nephews. More than anything he wanted them all to know and love the Lord as he did.

Phillip is survived by his wife Miriam of 64 years, a son Douglas S Hall of Kahoka, MO., a daughter Debra A (Bob) Lane of Quinton, VA., 2 grandchildren Bethany (Jacob) Edwards, Megan Lane and her fiancé Aden Vilardi, 1 great grandchild Kai Edwards, a sister-in-law Elaine Brotherton of Kahoka, MO., a brother-in-law David Shrauner of Robinsdale, MN., 2 nephews Eric Brotherton of Kahoka, MO., Mitch Shrauner of Minneapolis, MN, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Alfred and Lucille Hess, a sister-in-law Rita Shrauner, a brother-in-law Lewis Brotherton, and a niece Sara Prigge.
