Rachel Gutting

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Rachel Catherine Johnson Gutting received her angel's wings at the age of 93.  She was the fourth child born to Frances (Saner) Johnson and Laurence Johnson on September 13, 1930, in Revere, Missouri.  

She graduated from Revere High School in 1948.  After high school she attended Culver Stockton College.  On August 20, 1955, she married Gene Gutting in Kahoka.  They were the parents of three children, Susan, Daniel and John.

Rachel worked at the Clark County Home Health Agency and The State of Missouri Department of Education in Jefferson City. She and Gene also ran The North End Grocery for many years. Although she retired in 1992, until very recently she continued to manage the family farms.
   
Rachel was truly a renaissance woman: a gifted musician, skilled at art, knitting and sewing. Her love of music and art were proudly passed on to her grandchildren. Candy making was a special skill, her divinity was much loved by her youngest grandson, Killian.  She was a master in the art of playing penny slots and bingo.  She enjoyed coming to Las Vegas as much as possible. She was an organist for the Presbyterian Church for many years and served as State Musician for the Rebecca Lodge. She enjoyed socializing with her friends in Arizona and Missouri. An avid animal lover, she had a special fondness for cats.
     

Rachel is survived by her three children, Susan Seip and her husband Michael, Daniel Gutting and Sarah Droege, and John Gutting. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Saranden Seip and husband Richard Conti, Sierra Seip and husband Zak Van Buren, Colin Seip and wife Kate Allen, Killian Seip, Andria Seip and husband Phillip Dorrance, Eric Seip and wife Maureen. Great-Grandchildren include Bowie Conti, Siren Siobhan Conti, Truman and Asher Seip, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her friends and family, she will be greatly mourned by her beloved cat, Ozzie.
     
She was predeceased by her husband Gene, parents Frances and Laurence Johnson, in-laws Harry and June Gutting, two sisters, Gerry Oetjen, Helen McWhorter, a brother Scott Johnson, six bothers-in law, Darryl, Donald and Craig Gutting, Ira Johnson, Arlo Oetjen and Ralph McWhorter, three sisters-in-law, Brabara Gutting, Doris and Ernestine Johnson, a granddaughter Carissa Seip, and three nephews and a niece.

Funeral services honoring Rachel's life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at the Kahoka Presbyterian Church. Pastors John Hesse & Kim McNamar will officiate. Burial will follow at the Revere Cemetery in Revere. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of services at the church.  Memorial contributions in memory of Rachel are suggested to the Kahoka Presbyterian Church or to the Revere Cemetery.
