ROBERT LEE CRANDAL
Robert Lee Crandal, age 81, of Wayland, MO, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO from cancer and heart disease.
Robert was born December 24, 1931 near Kahoka, MO, the son of Francis A. and Gracie Lee Maggart Crandal.
He married Vera Tague on April 24, 1952 in Luray, MO. They are parents of two children, R. Mike and Verla.
Survivors include his wife, Vera, of the home; one son, R. Mike Crandal and his wife, Renee, of St. Charles, MO; one daughter, Verla Blanke and her husband, Russell, of Mexico, MO; five grandchildren: Keri Hoyt and her husband, Terrance, of St. Joseph, MO, Christopher Crandal of St. Charles, MO, Laura Crandal of Farmington, MO, Jack Blanke of Quincy, IL and Loretta Blanke of O'Fallon, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Dale Priebe of Kahoka, MO, Riley Newby of Leland, MI, Don Tague of Gorin, MO, Bruce Tague and his wife, Vera, of Williamstown, MO, Grace Brown of Memphis, MO and Ruth Tague of Edina, MO; as well as nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents;
three brothers, Albert Crandal, Clarence "Buckshot" Crandal, and Junior Crandal; seven sisters:
Althea Mohr, Mildred Hess, Nellie Sutcliffe, Iona Mielke, Joanna Newby, Rosa Mae Crandal and Ruby Priebe.
He grew up on a farm near Luray and attended the rural school near his home. Bob served in the Marine Corps from February, 1952 to February, 1954, spending 13 months in Korea during the fighting there. He is a life member of the 1st Marine Division Association and a member of the American Legion. He was very proud of his service to his country.
After serving in the Marines, he worked for Stone Container in Keokuk, retiring after 40 years. He never missed a day due to snow or inclement weather.
Bob loved to fish and hunt, especially quail, and trained his own dogs. He liked the out of doors, enjoying the changing seasons. He loved being with his grandchildren, teaching them to fish and hunt and to "always leave this world a little better than you found it".
Most every afternoon, you would find Bob drinking coffee and sharing stories with his friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Luray United Methodist Church or the Clark Co. Local Cancer Fund.
