Robert “Bob” Sommers, 83, of Luray, Missouri, passed away at his home at 11:30 am on Sunday, June 2, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Bob was born on April 28, 1941, in Rutledge, Missouri to Nicholas and Margaret (Riney) Sommers. Robert graduated from Granger High School in 1959. After high school he joined the army on October 8, 1959, and proudly served until February 2, 1962. He was united in marriage to Sue M. (Marsden) Sommers on August 18, 1963, at the homeplace in Memphis, Missouri. They got married, ate breakfast and then they hit the road to go to work.
Bob worked as a lineman for L.E. Myers for 10 years. In 1973 Bob started his own business, Sommers & Sons Sawmill in Luray, Missouri and worked until his health declined. Bob was a simple man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and sharing stories with the family. Bob was not a selfish man; he was always ready and willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. Bob loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. and family gatherings.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years: Sue Sommers, 2 sons: Steve (Sherie) Sommers of Luray, MO., Brent Sommers of Columbia, MO., 1 brother: Carl (Terry) Sommers of Arbela, MO., 1 sister: Charlotte Keller of Des Moines, IA, 2 grandsons: Colt (Jessie) Sommers of Luray, MO., Cody (Dakota) Sommers of Fort Madison, IA., 3 great grandchildren: Carter Sommers, Jaelyn Sommers and Colsten Sommers all of Luray, MO., other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother: Floyd Sommers.
Funeral Services with Full Military Rites for Robert “Bob” Sommers will be held Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Kahoka, MO., with burial in Kahoka Cemetery. Pastor Shawn McAfee will officiate. A visitation will be held at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 5, 2024, with family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
