ROSEMARY B. MOHR

Rosemary Blanche Mohr, age 90, of rural Kahoka, MO, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009,in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

She was born July 16, 1918, in Granger, MO, the oldest child of Craten and Gladys Roasa Barr. A few months later the family moved to a farm 5 miles west of Kahoka and that was Rosemary's home until her marriage.

Rosemary graduated from Kahoka High School in May 1936 as valedictorian of her class. She always had the desire to teach school. Rosemary attended the Northeast Missouri State Teachers College on a scholarship in 1936-37. She began teaching in the fall of 1937 after passing a state teacher's test that gave her a certificate to teach in rural schools. She taught the school term and then attended college each summer at Kirksville until graduation in 1943. Rosemary received a B.S. in Education with a major in Business Education and a minor in English. She later returned to college to earn a special reading certificate. Over the course of a 35-year career, Rosemary taught at rural country schools and town elementary and high schools. Schools included Bartlett Rural School (1937), Lone Star Rural School (1938 & 1939), Gravel Hill Rural School (1940 & 1941), Granger High School (1942), Pulaski High School (1943), Keosauqua High School (1944 & 1945), and, Centerville High School (1946). She returned to teaching in 1964 and taught at Antioch Rural School and at Clark Co. R-1 Junior High from 1965 until 1989. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Rosemary married Leonard Mohr on November 9, 1947. They moved to a farm 4 ½ miles west of Kahoka to work and raise a family. Rosemary and Leonard shared 45 years of marriage until his death on December 27, 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Mohr and his wife, Judy, and Steve Mohr, all of Kahoka, MO; two daughters, Linda Mohr of North Palm Beach, FL and Donna Donald of Corydon, IA; five grandchildren: Micki (Zig) Kauzlarich of Papillion, NE, Tina (Scott) Talbot of Indianola, IA, Angie (Rob) Talbot of Centerville, IA, Brett (Renee) Sharify of Charlotte, NC, and Ty Sharify of Kahoka, MO; seven great grandchildren: Brogan, Buddy, and Chase Kauzlarich, Kegan and Alix Talbot and Jordon and Haven Talbot; one brother, Glen Barr of Kahoka, MO; two sisters, Betty Longwith of Sedalia, MO and Joan Groh of Quincy, IL; as well as two nieces, two nephews, several cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son-in-law, David E. Donald.

Rosemary continued to live on the family farm. She enjoyed reading, collecting cookbooks, working crossword puzzles, watching baseball games, growing flowers and keeping up with the family's activities.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 5, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery.

Visitation was held after noon Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Wilson Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 4-6 p.m.
