Ruby L. Shoup, age 79, of Kahoka, MO, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.
Ruby was born September 20, 1940 in St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk, a daughter of Elmer Nicholas "Bill" and Louise Nichols Ellison.
Ruby grew up in the St. Patrick neighborhood, attending Mass at the Shrine, graduating from St. Patrick High School, and marrying Johnny Lee Shoup on September 16, 1961 at the Shrine of St. Patrick she so dearly loved.
Survivors include her children: Dennis (Linda) Shoup of Kahoka and Deb Marlin of Hamilton, IL; five grandchildren: Savannah (Daniel) Ashworth of Keokuk, Sam Marlin of Iowa City, Deanna Johnson of Kahoka and Emily and Ellen Stewart, both of Canton; three great grandchildren: London Ashworth and Emma and Zander Johnson; siblings: Gene Ellison, Kay and Dean Hess, Mary Weber, Bill and Carolyn Ellison, all of Kahoka and Gus Cameron of Kansas City; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Rita Ellison of Alexandria, Edgar and Phyllis Shoup of Hogansville, GA and Ozelma Shoup of Kahoka; also many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Shoup on October 20, 2011; her parents; her in-laws, Lee and Donna Shoup; brothers, Marty Ellison and Mark Cameron; and brothers-in-law, Charley Shoup and Larry Weber.
Ruby was employed by the Exchange Bank of Kahoka for many years and also was Secretary for St. Michael’s Parish until retiring.
She was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kahoka, a member of the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. In addition, she was a member of the Tuesday Club. She was active in the community and supported the many benefits and fund raisers with her dear group of close friends and family.
Ruby loved people, she loved going places, working in her flowers and sitting outside each evening enjoying visits with neighbors. Second only to her love for her Lord was her love for family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids and attending their activities. She was a very, very, proud mother and grandmother. She also loved being with her large, extended family.
Private graveside services were held on Wednesday at the Kahoka Cemetery with Father Rob Fields officiating. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
Friends could call between the hours of noon and six on Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.
Memorials in lieu of flowers were suggested to the Clark County Nursing Home Activity Fund or Northeast Missouri Hospice.
