RUSSELL LEE SCHAFROTH

Russell Lee Schafroth, age 77, of Montrose, IA, died Wednesday, August 15, 2007,in the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA.

He was born August 28, 1929, the son of George and Irene Russell Schafroth.

He was married to Joanne Showman of Nauvoo, IL.. Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Ryan and her husband, Chris, of rural Kahoka, MO; three sons: Martin Schafroth and his wife, Jean, of Peoria, AZ, Douglas Schafroth and his wife, Sandy, of Surprise, AZ, and Jerry Schafroth and his wife, Mary, of Perryville, MO; two sisters, Wilma Brenner of Baltimore, MD, and Marie Nordell of Rapid City, SD; twelve grandchildren: Damian, Jessie, Josh, Dustin, Sarah, D. J., Josh, Matthew, Taylor, Donovan, Bennett, and Brooke; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Randall and Russell, Jr.

Russell attended school in Corning, IA and served in the U. S. Navy for three years. He was an accomplished carpenter and ran his own construction crew for many years.At the age when most people are retiring, Russell went back to school and became a home inspector. He worked as an inspector for the City of Nauvoo and also independently for many

homes and commercial businesses. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Wayland, MO, and his church life was very important to him. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast, and had traveled on his cycle to 48 states. He also loved to engage others in a game of chess or dominoes. Even as his health deteriorated, he remained positive and as independent as possible.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO, with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial with military rites was on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning, IA with military rites
