Shirley J Stice

May 24, 1941 — December 16, 2024

Kahoka

Shirley J Stice, 83, of Kahoka, MO., passed away at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, MO., on Monday, December 16, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born May 24, 1941, in Kirksville, MO., the daughter of Harry Lee and Leota IvaLee (Moore) Moore.

Shirley was raised in Downing Mo., the older of 2 children. In her high school years, she started dating Roy and discovered her happily ever after. They were married on February 14, 1960. They moved to Kahoka in 1962. Shirley was an active member of her church as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and choir member. Her faith and family were the most important things to her.

She was involved as a room mother and chaperone during her kids schooling and loved to help at band events and student senate events with Roy. Shirley was known for her baking. She touched many lives by making homemade birthday cakes, wedding and anniversary cakes and mints. Her sugar cookies were known around the county as the best. And even though we have the recipe, we aren’t sure what her secret ingredient was because we can’t duplicate them. She was also a beloved babysitter—and she considered those children and their families her extended family.

Some of her greatest joys were her 6 grandchildren. She always made sure after visits each one had a to-go pack of snacks. She never missed decorating for holidays. Each month had at least one holiday and it needed celebrating. Christmas and Valentine’s Day were her favorites. She loved her pets dearly and they were all spoiled rotten. She also loved gardening, spending much summertime tending plants and canning.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years Roy, her son: Gregory (Rosemary) Stice of Urbandale, IA., daughters: Gayla (Stevan) Vukcevich of Keokuk, IA., Faith (Brian) Waschenbach of Kahoka, MO., a sister: Charlotte Mathews of Columbia, MO., grandchildren: Spencer Waschenbach, Sydney (Dakota) Overhulser, Matthew Vukcevich, Laurel Stice, Ann Vukcevich, Hope Stice, great grandchild: Eli Meyer-Overhulser, a niece Cindy Mathews, and a nephew Randy Mathews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws: Spencer and Jewell (Cook) Stice, and a son infancy: Douglas Stice.
