STANLEY L. HORTER
Stanley L. Horter, age 74, of Kahoka, MO, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 15, 2007, at the family farm south of Wayland, MO.
He was born December 4, 1932, at Luray, MO, a son of Roy and Alma Jenkins Horter.
He married Twila M. Jesberg on March 27, 1955, at Kahoka, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Twila, of Kahoka; three sons, Charles and his wife, LuJean, of Kahoka, James of Farmington, and Paul and his wife, Vicki, of Wayland; a daughter, Ethel Eagle and her husband, Kevin, of Kahoka; eight grandchildren: Sara Lewis and her husband, Brian, of Kahoka, Karen Lowery and her husband, David, of Wyaconda, Ashley Horter of Farmington, Quentin Horter of Kahoka, Brandon Hall, Corey Horter and Raven Eagle, all of Wayland, and,
Bethany Eagle, of Kahoka; a great-granddaughter, Makia Shipp of Wayland; four sisters, Hazel Schreiber of Kahoka, Edith Templeton of Keokuk, Helen Pearson and her husband, Roy, of Kahoka, and Ruby Stamper and her husband, Jim, of Des Moines, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Howard Heinze and Doris and Bob Eddleman, all of Kahoka; as well as several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas Horter; a brother, Raymond
Horter; and two sisters, Eva Hobb and Vera Irvin.
Stanley attended school in Luray. His family later moved to Clark City east of Kahoka and as a boy he would ride his bicycle from there to his job at Sherwood Elevator. He then entered the service and served in the Army. He and Twila were married a month later and his jobs included working at the DX Service Station and later driving a truck for MFA. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Stone Container in Keokuk for over thirty years and was a member of United Paper Workers # 280. He also farmed and raised cattle.
Stanley was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka. He truly enjoyed taking care of the farm and cattle and in earlier years fishing and hunting. His family was very dear to him and it made him very happy to spend time with his grandchildren, particularly picking on them and kidding them.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial with military rites by Herman Blum Post # 192, Ayer-Boatman Post # 4342, V.F.W. and Missouri Military Honors team will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends can call at Wilson Funeral Home after 11 a.m. on Sunday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.
