STEPHEN DOUGLAS "STEVIE" McANDREW

Stephen Douglas McAndrew, age 49, formerly of Kahoka, MO, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019 in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, surrounded by his family.

Stevie was born June 19, 1970 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Thomas E. and Frances Hayden McAndrew.

Survivors include one brother, Thomas E. (Nancy) McAndrew of Drakesville, IA; three sisters: Chris Curtis of Mexico, MO, Cathy (Gary) Randolph of Canton, MO and Heidi (Robbie) Schutte of Kahoka, MO; nieces and nephews and their families: Shiloh (Mike) Kun and Shannon (Paul) Clark, all of Columbia, MO, Taylor (Ryan) Colley of Mexico, MO, Grant Curtis of Paris, MO, Megan Randolph and Aury (Katie) Randolph, all of Canton, MO, Lindsay (Zack) Crittendon of Orinda, CA, and Lucas (Doris) Schutte of New Orleans, LA; also many cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Laurie.

Stevie attended Blackhawk Elementary in Kahoka. He collected money many years for Muscular Dystrophy during the MDA Telethon, knocking on doors around Kahoka and far as Medill. Many times his family would have to go out looking for him because it was important to him to help raise money for "Jerry’s Kids" and he would lose track of time. Stevie made many friends and never met a stranger. He had a heart of gold and loved giving more than receiving.

One of his past times was giving away cards and then reading them to the recipient. He also loved Christmas shopping, fireworks, his "smokes" and having a beer with the brothers-in-law.

Stevie was never short of love. He loved his family more than anything as well as babies and dogs. He loved reading history, especially about Abraham Lincoln and also lifetime channel.

He loved going to Heidi’s to ride on the side-by-side and play with the dogs. He also loved spending time on Tommie’s farm riding horses and had a special bond with Tom’s dog "Murphy" who passed away the same day.

Steve was born with Prader Willi Syndrome and with the love and support of his family and extended family, lived way beyond his life expectancy.

Memorial services were held Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Inurnment followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.
