Susan (Hardy) Schmitz, 44, of Wyaconda, MO passed away with her family by her side at 10:10 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2024, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Susan was born on January 8, 1980, in Kirksville, MO., to Dan Hardy and Sandy (Murphy) Hardy. She was united in marriage to Lee B. Schmitz on August 10, 2002, on the family farm in Gorin, MO., and he survives.
Susan was a member of The Crossing Church in Keokuk, IA., and the Peaksville Church in Peaksville, MO. Susan was very involved with the ministry for the youth. Susan was a 1998 graduate of the Wyaconda High School in Wyaconda, MO., and from there she went on to further her education with a bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State University in Education and then later received her Master’s Degree. She was a teacher at several schools including Gorin and Clark County School. After being in Color Guard in college, she helped with flags in the band, any chance she had. Susan loved children and was happiest around them. She enjoyed reading, growing a garden, and canning her harvest every year. Music is what she loved in all its aspects, including flags, singing, and band. Susan’s greatest pride was watching her children grow and being involved in anything they were involved in. Susan was a fighter and never gave up. After surviving breast cancer she became a source of knowledge, comfort and strength for others with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was known for her unwavering faith and boundless love for her family, friends, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Susan’s memory lives on through the love she shared and the impact she made on the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Susan is survived by her husband Lee, her children: Kathrynn Schmitz, Jonathan Schmitz, William Schmitz and Forrester Schmitz all of the home. Her parents: Dan Hardy of Luray, MO., Sandy Hardy (Ott )Yearns of Memphis, MO., her father and mother in-law: David and Donna Schmitz of Wyaconda, MO., 1 brother: Duane Hardy of Columbia, MO., 2 sisters: Allison McDaniel (Dylan Ludwick) of Revere, MO., Summer Miller of Keokuk, IA., 1 brother-in-law: John (Sarah) Schmitz of Belen, New Mexico, 1 sister-in-law: Ann (Michael “Sparky”) York of Quincy, IL. Susan is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Kenneth & Bessie Hardy of Luray, MO & Bill & Sue Murphy of Wyaconda, MO.
Funeral Services for Susan Schmitz will be held Friday March 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Crossing, in Keokuk, IA., with burial at the Wyaconda Cemetery. Pastor Shawn McAfee, and Pastor Jason Harting will officiate.

Visitation with family present will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home. Memorials in memory of Susan Schmitz are suggested to Clark County Marching Indians, Her Children's Education Fund, and the Wyaconda Cemetery.
