SUZIE HOPP

Suzie L. Hopp, age 68, of Luray, MO, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at her home surrounded by family following a battle with cancer.

Donna L. "Suzie" Hopp, was born May 8, 1946 in Keokuk, IA, a daughter of Harry M. "Breek" and Bertha James Yates.

She married Vernon G. Hopp on January 29, 1964 at Luray and they were blessed to have celebrated 50 years of marriage this past winter.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon, of Luray; three sons, Faren (Tammy) Hopp of Hamilton, IL, Darin (Sandie) Hopp of Kahoka, and Ryan Hopp of Luray; one daughter, Brenda (Mrs. Jeff) Tweedy of Keokuk; nine grandchildren: Anthony (Chelsea) Hopp of Hamilton,
Cecillie (Chris) Vinson, of Casper, WY, Katrina (Zach) Suter, and Faren Gavin Hopp, all of Hamilton, Rob (Erin) Hopp, Kenzie (David) Harper, all of Kahoka; Trevor Tweedy of Camp Wood, TX, and Dalton and Brianna Tweedy of Keokuk, IA; eight great grandchildren and one due in October: Caden, Blake and Khyli Hopp, Owen and Nietzea Vinson, Carsen and Adalynn Suter; and, Troy Tweedy. Three brothers, Bill (Melba) Yates of Luray, Gene (Linda) Yates of Revere, her twin, Pete (Janice) Yates of Revere; a sister, Sandra (Donnie) Wagers of Lake of the Ozarks, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gary "Charlie" Hopp and Richard McDaniel, both of Luray, Becky Hopp of Memphis, and Eldon (Pattie) Hopp of Revere; special friends, Judy Cordray, Betty Jo Smith and Sheila Jenkins; as well as other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Robert Yates; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Valora McDaniel, Keith Hopp, and Delphene Yates; and nieces and nephews: Randy, Rodney, Jim and Gina Yates; Matt Wilson; Brent Lipper, Austin Hopp and Tammie Boatman.

Suzie was a 1964 graduate of the Kahoka High School. Following her graduation she worked at the Iowa Ordinance plant until she became pregnant with her first child and babysat for several generations of families. She then went to the work for the garment factory for four years. After 14 years of employment, she retired from the Luray School due to her failing health.

Suzie was a long-time member of the Luray Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher. She had been a member of the Luray Betterment Committee and the Luray School Board.

Suzie loved to do crafts, especially cross stitch. She had bowled leagues for many years and enjoyed walking every day with her friends and spending time mowing her yard.. She spent many wonderful hours watching her kids'and grandkids' sports activities and other events. She loved her family more than anything and it meant a lot to her to chronicle their lives by making sure all pictures were kept in order and dated.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Mark Lowman officiating. Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery.
