Thelma K. M. Dienst Wright
Thelma Katherine Matilda Dienst Wright, age 92, formerly of Wayland, MO, died
Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka where she had been
a resident the past four years.
She was born March 20, 1914, at her parent's home near Alexandria, the only child of
Edward H. and Bertha K. Martin Dienst.
OnJune 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Floyd Wright at her family home in Clark County. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1996.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Wright and his wife, Pam, of Wayland, MO; a daughter, Marilyn Land and her husband, Robert, of Alexandria, MO; six grandchildren: Lanea Zimmerman and her husband, Larry, of Keokuk, IA, Sheryl Armstrong of Burlington, IA, Janie Hawkins and her husband, Stacey, of Kahoka, MO, Andy Wright of Indiana, Malachi Eddleman and her husband, Clint, of Kahoka, MO, and Selah Wright of Wayland, MO; eight great-grandchildren: Luke Zimmerman, Brittanie and Austen Armstrong, Corby Hawkins and his fiance, Hilary Kievit, Kendall and Kayla Hawkins, and Payton and Mia Eddleman; a great-great granddaughter, Addesa Brandenburg; as well as nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a grandson, Robert Floyd "Bobby" Land.
Thelma graduated from Kahoka High School and attended Kirksville Teacher's College and later Culver-Stockton College. She taught prior to her marriage at Alexandria and Keystone and Plainview rural Clark County schools. After Wayne entered school she went to work at St. Joseph Hospital and later at Keokuk Area Hospital, working in housekeeping and central supply.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka and of the former women's fellowship. She was also a member of the Wayland Carnation Club and past member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Wayland.
She enjoyed gardening, outdoor work and outdoor activities. She also enjoyed music, playing the piano and playing the trombone in band. Thelma enjoyed life and finding games to entertain her family when they were together. She was a caring, loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She appreciated the friendship and the loving care she received during her stay at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Friends can call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Clark Co. Nursing Home Alzheimer's Unit.
