Vernon G. Hopp

Vernon G. Hopp, 81, of Luray, passed away peacefully at 12:56 pm on Monday, June 19, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health & Hospice Centre in West Burlington, Iowa.

He was born on May 20, 1942, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of the late W. Lester & Elnora (Oilar) Hopp. Vernon attended Kahoka High School, graduating in 1961. He married Donna “Susie” Yates on January 29, 1964, in Luray and she preceded him in death on July 24, 2014.

Vernon worked for many years at Sheller-Globe in Keokuk, Iowa, retiring in 2005. He was a tractor pull enthusiast and a member of the Fox Valley Three Cylinder Club. Vernon enjoyed coin collecting, toy tractor collecting, stock car races, going to farm auctions, assembling puzzles and camping. He particularly enjoyed attending fairs, especially the Mule Fest in Kahoka.

He is survived by three sons; Faren (Tammy) Hopp of Hamilton, Illinois, Darin (Sandie) Hopp of Kahoka and Ryan (Farrah Cuizon) Hopp of Luray, a daughter; Brenda (Jeff) Tweedy of Keokuk, Iowa, nine grandchildren; Rob (Erin) Hopp, Anthony (Chelsea) Hopp, Cecillie (Chris) Vinson, Kenzie (David) Harper, Katrina Scott, Trevor Tweedy, Gavin (Riley) Hopp, Dalton & Brianna Tweedy, fifteen great grandchildren; a brother; Eldon (Pattie) Hopp of Luray, a brother in-law; Richard "Red" McDaniel of Kahoka, a sister in-law; Becky (Kenny) Stutsman of Kahoka, a special friend; Linda Luedeman of Kahoka and by several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Vernon was preceded in death by two brothers; Keith & Gary Hopp and by a sister; VaLora McDaniel.

Funeral services honoring Vernon’s life will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home of Kahoka. Pastor Rex Link will officiate. Interment will follow at the Kahoka City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the funeral home.
