VIOLET L. PLENGE

Violet L. Plenge, age 94, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Keokuk Area Hospital.

She was born November 20, 1911 at Gregory Landing in Clark County, MO, a daughter of Willis and Hallie Gibbons Hoewing.

She married Harry L. Plenge on August 6, 1939 in Kahoka. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1993.

Survivors include: two sons, Henry Plenge and his wife, Jeanette, of Kahoka, MO, and Hal Plenge of Kahoka, MO; a daughter, Susanne Webster and her husband, Dean, of Kahoka, MO; a daughter-in-law, Susan Plenge, of Canton, MO; a sister-in-law, Irene Plenge, of Kahoka, MO; a brother-in-law, Rev. Glen Martensen, of St. Louis, MO; fourteen grandchildren: Nadine and Steve McKenzie of Pleasant Hill, MO, John and Laura Plenge of Kahoka, MO, David and Jill Plenge of Kahoka, MO, Helen and Joe Cox of Jefferson City, MO, Teresa and Jeff Glasgow of Springdale, AR, H L and Vina Plenge of Kahoka, MO, Sam Plenge and Andrew Plenge, both of Kahoka, MO, Anna Plenge of Montrose, IA, Nathan Plenge and Heather Watson, both of Bloomfield, IA, and, Jennifer, Jacqueline and Katie Plenge, all of Canton, MO; 15 great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Helen Margaret Plenge; a son, Hugh Plenge; a granddaughter, Lisa Webster; a grandson-in-law, Steve Watson; a great grandson, Jacob Edward Glasgow; three brothers, Victor, Ivan, and Willis Hoewing, Jr., and, three sisters: one in infancy and Helen Lois Cavender and Hallie Louise Johnson.

Violet graduated from Kahoka High School and received her nurses training at St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk, IA. Harry's job took them to St. Louis and while there she worked at Deaconess Hospital. After several years they moved back to Clark County and she returned to St. Joseph Hospital until retiring. She later served as interim director of nursing when the Clark Co. Nursing Home opened its doors in September of 1970 until February of 1971. Following Harry's retirement, they moved to California for several years to be near her brother, Victor. The rest of her life was spent in Clark Co. where she was lovingly surrounded by family and friends.

Violet was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka and of the Women's Fellowship. She also served as a volunteer for many years at the Clark Co. Nursing Home. She and Harry enjoyed traveling and one of the highlights was visiting her pen pal of many years, Edith Dietzel, and her family at their home in Kassel, Germany. She was a talented seamstress and excellent homemaker and cook. Her church and family were very important to her and she was very proud of their accomplishments.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, 2006 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Rev. Kenneth Beckmann officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Paul Church Cemetery.

Friends can call after 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.
