WAYNE HALFERTY

Wayne Halferty, age 89, formerly of Revere, MO, died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 in the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

He was born in rural Clark County, MO, near Peaksville, on May 2, 1915, a son of Richard and Tirza Best Halferty.

He married Ida Fern McHugh on December 24, 1941 in Louisiana, MO. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1992.

Survivors include one son, Paul Halferty and his wife, Janice, of Ottumwa, IA; five grandchildren: Sam Halferty of Chicago, IL, Donald Halferty and his wife, Margaret, of Ankeny, IA, Kirby Halferty and his wife, Valerie, of Richmond, VA, Paula Smallwood and her husband, Tony, of Springfield, MO, and Daniel Halferty of Burlington, IA; seven great-grandchildren;

two sisters, Wilma Kuntz of Kahoka, MO and Amy Abel of Graham, TX; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Fay Schreiber, Opal Sherwood, and Mary Bartels; and three brothers, John, Ray, and Sam Halferty.

Wayne was a life-long resident of Clark County, farming there until ill health forced his retirement in 1999. He had served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was saved in the Peaksville Christian Church in October of 1952 and faithfully attended and served in that church as long as his health permitted.

Funeral services are Sunday, September 12, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Peaksville Christian Church with Pastors Shawn McAfee and Herb Doty officiating. Burial will be in Revere Cemetery.

Friends can call after 4 p.m. on Saturday with family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

Memorials are suggested to the Peaksville Christian Church.
