William Allen Porter, 88, of Kahoka, passed away at 4:25 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at his home.
William was born on August 31, 1932, the son of the late Allen James “Doc” and Goldie (Deck) Porter. He was a graduate from Keokuk High School. He married Martha (Fuchs) Porter on June 3, 1966, and she survives.
William was employed by Sheller-Globe as a foreman until his retirement. He loved fishing, deer and turkey hunting, and found great enjoyment in farming. Martha and William had a farm at their house outside of Wayland for many years and considered it his second job. William enlisted in the Navy on June 3, 1952, and served a total of exactly eight years.
In addition to his wife, Martha, William leaves behind five sons; Bill Porter Jr. of Tucson, AR, Doug Porter of Wayland, David Porter of Augusta, IL, Rick (Ally) Whiteaker of Aledo, IL, and Gary Whiteaker of Kahoka, one daughter, Julie (Byron) Thompson of Augusta, IL, grandchildren; Brandi Nelson, Kelli Marshall, Dakota Whiteaker, and Jessica Whiteaker, great-grandchildren; Morgan Nelson, Quentin Nelson, and Oliva Whiteaker. Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his three sisters, Rose Mary Porter, Joan Seabold, and Patricia Elder, and one daughter-in-law, Jane Porter.
Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services at this time, an inurnment will be held at a later date in the Frazee Cemetery.
