WINSTON WALKER
Everett Winston Walker, age 82, of St. Francisville, MO, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at his home.
He was born April 15, 1925 at Keokuk IA, a son of Lloyd and Lena Boice Walker.
He was united in marriage to Doris A. Sargent on January 16, 1942 at Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2003.
Survivors include: one son, Terry Walker, of St. Francisville, MO; a daughter-in-law, Georgia Sutterfield of Kahoka, MO; special friend, Marie Hayden of Keokuk, IA; four grandchildren: Christopher (Lori) Walker of Kearney, MO, Drenda (Joe) Neptune of Chillicothe, MO, Tamra (Gene) Schuelka of Keokuk, IA, and Monty Walker of Texas; two step grandchildren, Greg (Evalena) Sutterfield and Jimmy Sutterfield, all of Kahoka, MO; five great grandchildren: Cody and Kylie Walker, Chase and Kolt Neptune, and Shane Smeltser; six step great-grandchildren: Amee (James) Jones of Lancaster, MO, and, Tara, Emily, Destiny, Jessica and Justin Sutterfield, all of Kahoka, MO; a step great-great grandchild, Addison Jones of Lancaster, MO; a brother, Bernard (Mary) Walker of Wayland, MO; two sisters, Bernadine Wilson of Kahoka, MO and Betty Hecox of Keokuk, IA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary Whitaker of Revere, MO, Nancy Walker of Alexandria, MO, and, Gilbert and Connie Sargent of Tuscon, AZ; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Winston Junior Walker; three sisters: Shirley Whitaker, Zola Byrn, and, Janice Sue in infancy; and, two brothers, Wayne Barney Walker and Marvin Walker.
Winston was a graduate of Wayland High School and a World War II Navy veteran. He was also a member of St. Francisville Lodge # 588, A.F. & A.M. He owned Walkers Barber Shop on south 5th street in Keokuk for many years. Following retirement, he worked at the toll bridge at St. Francisville until it was closed. He loved gardening and raising watermelon and sweet corn. He and Doris were always on the go, supporting the events in the area and serving as taxi to many friends. Their family was always the most important thing to both of them.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Sand Cemetery at St. Francisville.
