Zelma "Joann" Baker-Humes, 92, formerly of Wyaconda, passed away at 4:30pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Macon Healthcare Center, Macon, Missouri surrounded by her family.
Joann was born on July 16, 1931, in Rardin, IL., to William K. and Zelma L. (Marble) Baker. She was united in marriage to LaVerne “Jack” Humes on April 16, 1955 at the Kahoka Christian Church in Kahoka, Missouri, and he preceded her in death August 11, 2005.
Joann was a faithful member of the Wyaconda Christian Church and was very much involved with the youth ministry. Zelma was a 1949 graduate of Oakland High School in Oakland, IL., and then went on to further her education with a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern College in Charleston, Il. She was an Art Teacher at the Clark County School. Joann enjoyed seeing the many talents of her students. Joann liked reading, sewing, and raising a garden. Joann was a member of the Red Hatters, Royal Neighbors. and the Flint Ridge Extension Club. Her church, family and friends were all important to her.
Joann is survived by her 2 daughters: Mary Ann (Dennis) Robertson of Blue Springs, Mo., Susan Marie (Don) Douglas of Macon, Mo., 6 grandchildren: Pamela (Jeff) Kemp, Michael (Janelle) Robertson, Aaron Cline, Lee Douglas, Dade (Shelby) Douglas, Donovan (Casey) Douglas, 9 great grandchildren: Adilyn and Emily Kemp, Wendy and Archie Robertson, Logan, Jax and Kylie Douglas, Brycen and Liam Bach, 1 sister: Joyce Palm of Az., and other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 children: Yvonne Rae Humes, Randal Eric Humes, 3 brothers: Charles Baker, William Baker, Carrol Baker, and 3 sisters: Wanda Miyagawa, Nadine Carlan and Melba Von Lanken.
Funeral Services for Zelma “Joann” Baker-Humes will be held Friday March 8, 2024 at 11:00 am at Wyaconda Christian Church, in Wyaconda, Mo., with burial at the Wyaconda Cemetery. Pastor Paul Harvey will officiate. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the Wyaconda Christian Church, 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorials in memory of Joann Baker-Humes are suggested to Wyaconda Christian Church, Wyaconda Cemetery or Compassus Hospice.
